Kitchen:
Due to a need to maintain the kitchen facilities at a certain level of standards, there are guidelines which must be followed to allow these standards to be accomplished. Therefore, the kitchen is "off limits" to everyone except kitchen staff. In some cases the "Senior Cook" may give specific permission to be in the kitchen. If you are listed on kitchen detail following the evening meal you may be in the kitchen during that time.

Snack Area:
The snack area has a variety of appliances available for the preparation of snacks and meals. Among these is a refrigerator which may be used to place your personal items that need refrigeration. This refrigerator is kept locked. There are three or four individuals on campus who have a key. A key is also kept in the office. If you place an item in the refrigerator, it must be in an appropriate container, and should be labeled with your name. Do not leave food items beyond their reasonable shelf life. This refrigerator will be cleaned on a regular basis, so be sure to review your items regularly.

Food and Diet:
It is inappropriate to look into the containers that belong to other individuals. It is also inappropriate to take or consume items which belong to someone else. Even if there is no label on an item, if you know you did not place it in the refrigerator, leave it alone. The fact that it is there, does not mean it is public property. If you take food which is not yours, it will be considered as theft, and will be treated the same as any other theft!

If you require a special diet, please inform the staff before completing your application. The staff reserves the right to coordinate the administering of special diets as well as the right to determine if Central Care Mission is able to accommodate special circumstances.

Responsibilities:
The facilities are the responsibility of every resident. Everyone is responsible for the "whole property".It is important for each man to give consideration to the care of these facilities in the following ways:

Conservation - If we continually check for lights left on unnecessarily, water faucets or hoses left on unnecessarily, excessive use of toilet tissue, and any other thing that would be contrary to "being conservative", then we will be able to keep our operating expenses at a minimum allowing for improvements in other areas.

Policing - As a place is designated for everything, it is important that every resident "police" the grounds on a regular basis, picking up trash, replacing items to their proper place, disposing of litter, and constantly having a watchful eye.

Protecting - To allow for the freedom and sense that these facilities are our home, we must protect and preserve the possessions and privacy of each man. If at any time you see an individual you do not recognize as a resident or staff member from Central Care Mission, take the initiative to approach them and escort them to an office staff member.

Consideration - Each man's privacy is determined by the space he is allocated (the physical space and the "social" space). We do not draw lines on the floors to create spaces, however, you will receive a bed assignment and must work out the space with other individuals in your dorm. It is expected that each man will respect the space of others and will be fair with a willingness to share.

Reporting - You will probably notice specific maintenance needs before office staff will. Please report any item or activity you feel might bring danger or harm to Central Care Mission, its program, or its residents to a staff member.

There is to be no structural modification or mounting on walls without the approval of the staff.

Eating Areas:
So as to control the attraction of insects and bugs as well as odors and discoloration, there are designated areas for eating. Please restrict your eating activities to those specific places. The two main areas are the snack area and Hudson Hall.

Telephones:
For your convenience, we have a pay phone in the main entry area of Price Building. Please use this phone to make personal calls. Please restrict your calls to 15 minutes or less and always be courteous of other residents who may need the phone as well. In the event you have no change for the payphone, you may be permitted to use the office phone during certain hours. Again, this phone is to be used with every consideration. The pay phone is not a "camping out" place. If you have calls relating to work, please give the office number. If you have calls which are family related, you may be able to use the office phone, unless the calls become excessive, at which time you will need to use the payphone.

Due to the continual change of residents within Central Care Mission, a list of "Telephone Guidelines" will be posted on the bulletin board with specific guidelines which will be followed during certain periods of time. The staff may adjust and post these to provide clear understanding of proper phone procedures.

Details:
A "detail roster" is posted and maintained with assignments for specific areas of responsibility to assure the cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities. These areas might include the kitchen, dishes, restrooms, vacuuming, cleaning windows, emptying trash cans, etc. The details are rotated among residents for a "sharing of responsibility".
